AN elderly woman died in a house fire in Coburg on Monday night.

Firefighters rushed to the Reynard Street house about 11.45pm on Monday in response to callers to Triple Zero who reported smoke and the sound of smoke alarms coming from the property.

They arrived within six minutes and were able to get the blaze under control quickly.

The sole occupant, a 102-year-old woman, was found deceased inside the house.

Crews made sure the fire was fully extinguished before handing the scene over to Victoria Police to prepare a report for the coroner.

The cause of the fire has not been established and police said it was not being treated as suspicious.
