Firies kept busy with two call outs within a week
Monday’s fire triggered a local smoke warning
Brunswick Voice
A CLOUD of smoke could be seen billowing across parts of Brunswick on Monday morning from a house fire that required two dozen firefighters to bring under control.
Fire Rescue Victoria responded to multiple emergency calls at 11.46am on Monday.
They arrived at the scene within seven minutes to find a single-storey weatherboard dwelling in Holloway Road in flames and issuing smoke.
Crews wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, bringing it under control in 45 minutes and containing it to the affected dwelling.
Two occupants managed to flee the blaze before firefighters arrived and were assessed by ambulance officers for smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported. A community advice warning was issued for smoke in the area.
In total, 12 appliances and 24 firefighters responded. Investigators visited the scene later in the day to determine the cause.
Monday’s fire follows a blaze last Friday morning in a restaurant in Lygon Street in Brunswick East that required the evacuation of 15 people.
That fire was reported just after midnight on Friday. One person was treated for smoke inhalation after firefighters in breathing apparatus responded quickly, containing the fire to the rear room of the single-storey building where it started and to the ceiling.
It is not being treated as suspicious.
