POLICE are investigating a series of thefts from building cages around Brunswick over the past two months.

Bikes and tools have been stolen by what is believed to be the same man who has broken into the cages, typically located within apartment building car parks, at five separate addresses between August and October.

The burglaries have been caught on CCTV cameras, which have allowed police to appeal for public assistance to identify a man described as Caucasian, of medium build and aged in his 30s.

The properties which have been targeted are in Brunswick Road about 9am on August 9; Lygon Street between September 4 and 9; Barkly Street between September 6 and 7; Breese Street about 2.10pm on September 24; and Barkly Street between 6.30am and 3.15pm.

Items stolen have included a Milwaukee cordless drill set, a blue Makita radio, Paslode power tools, suitcases containing various clothing and four bikes: a black Trek Emonda, a white Merinda, a 2002 green and black Giant, and a silver and black Scott Ransom 920.

Stolen bicycles was one of the most common crimes in Brunswick last year, with 286 offences recorded for the 12 months to the end of June, or about 8% of all crimes in the area over that period.
