Coburg carjacking charges laid
Victim suffered serious foot injury

A MAN has been charged over a violent attempted carjacking in Coburg in late-November.
Following an extensive investigation into the incident which took place on November 24, detectives arrested a 36-year-old man from Sydenham on 14 December.
It is alleged a man attempted to steal a grey Hyundai in the presence of the vehicle’s owner at a May Street property about 12.20pm that day.
The alleged offender assaulted the male car owner causing him to fall backwards onto the ground.
It is alleged the offender, accompanied by a woman and another man, then fled the scene in a Lexus, driving over the victim’s foot.
The victim, a 60-year-old Coburg man, was taken to hospital with a serious foot injury.
A man has been charged with attempted theft of a motor vehicle, recklessly causinginjury and common law assault.
He has been remanded to appear before Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on May 26.
Fatal collision in Moreland Road
A man died following a two-car collision in Brunswick earlier this month.
Emergency services were called to reports a Toyota Camry collided with a Toyota Yaris at the intersection of Moreland and Sydney roads about 2.15pm on Tuesday, 6 January.
The Yaris then crashed into a pole.
The driver of the Yaris, an 87-year-old Northcote man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he later died.
The passenger, an 89-year-old Northcote woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to hospital.
The driver of the Camry, a 39-year-old woman, was not injured and stopped at the scene.
