A POP-UP COVID-19 vaccination centre will operate at Brunswick Secondary College in Dawson Street this weekend as Victoria makes its final push towards the end of lockdown.

The centre, first flagged by the state government last month, will operate between 10am and 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday, offering both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines.

Brunswick is one of eight schools selected by the government to be pop-up centres in the race to achieve a 70% first dose rate, when the lockdown will end in Melbourne. Currently, this is estimated to be October 26.

Confirmation of the pop-up centre comes as new data shows the Brunswick-Coburg area is ranked 53rd out of 66 areas in Victoria for its rate of fully vaccinated residents aged over 15.

As of Monday, Brunswick-Coburg had a full vaccination rate for residents aged over 15 of 48.9% and a first dose rate of 73.6%.

The area is lagging badly behind the statewide average of 82.3% first dose and 52.6% fully vaccinated.

The north of Moreland is even further behind, ranked 60th in Victoria with a fully vaccinated rate of 44.7% and a first dose rate of 77%.

On Monday, Brunswick, Brunswick West, and Brunswick East had 95 active cases, having acquired 15 new cases in the last 24 hours.

There were three exposure sites listed for the suburb, including a childcare centre in Mitchell Street.

The pop-up vaccination centre at Brunswick Secondary College will be open for both bookings and walk-ins for anyone aged over 12, including for second doses.

Bookings can be made online or by calling 1800 675 398.

In an email to the school community on Monday, Brunswick Secondary’s principal, Karen Harris, said final year students who were first vaccinated in the last week of term three will receive their second dose at the school on Friday afternoon. These vaccinations will only be available to Year 12 students and not to the public.
